What is the altitude of Pelling?
Pelling is at about 2,150 metres (roughly 7,000 ft) above sea level. Upper Pelling is slightly higher than Lower Pelling.
What is Pelling famous for?
Pelling is famous for close sunrise views of Kanchenjunga (8,586 m, the world’s third-highest mountain), Pemayangtse Monastery (founded 1705), the Rabdentse Ruins, the Pelling Skywalk with its 137-ft Chenrezig statue, and nearby Khecheopalri Lake.
Is Pelling worth visiting?
Yes, if you want mountain views, monasteries and a quiet pace. Pelling is less crowded than Gangtok or Darjeeling. If you want nightlife, shopping or snow activities, Gangtok and North Sikkim suit you better.

What is the best time to visit Pelling?
October to December is best for clear Kanchenjunga views. March to May brings rhododendrons and pleasant weather. June to September is monsoon, with frequent cloud and road delays. Month-by-month details: best time to visit Pelling.
Pelling or Gangtok – which is better?
They serve different trips. Gangtok is a busy capital and the base for Tsomgo Lake, Nathu La and North Sikkim. Pelling is quieter, faces Kanchenjunga directly and is better for views, monasteries and slow travel. Most visitors do both.
Pelling or Darjeeling for Kanchenjunga views?
Pelling is closer to the Kanchenjunga massif and many hotels face it directly, so views are larger and more frequent. Darjeeling offers Tiger Hill, tea gardens and the toy train. The two are about 70–80 km apart, so you can combine them.
How much does a 3-day Pelling trip cost?
Roughly ₹7,000–10,000 per person from Siliguri on a budget (shared transport, homestays), and ₹20,000–30,000 per person mid-range (private taxi, view hotel). Prices vary by season.
Is Pelling safe for solo and women travellers?
Yes. Pelling and Sikkim are generally considered very safe. Use registered taxis, avoid driving mountain roads late at night, and tell your hotel your plans for longer excursions.
Is Pelling good for senior citizens?
Yes, with planning. Choose a hotel with few stairs (Lower Pelling or near a resort’s main building) and stick to easy sights like Khecheopalri Lake, Rimbi Waterfall and the helipad viewpoint. Take stairs slowly at this altitude.
