3-Day Pelling Itinerary: The Perfect Plan for First-Time Visitors

Updated 17 Oct 2026 · 3 min read · By the PellingHotels team

Three nights is the sweet spot for Pelling. It gives you two or three chances at a clear sunrise, time for both main sightseeing loops, and a few unhurried hours to enjoy the view. Here’s a plan that works for most first-time visitors.

The plan

  • Day 1: Arrive, check in, sunset at the helipad.
  • Day 2: Sunrise, then the West Loop — Rimbi, Khecheopalri Lake, Kanchenjunga Falls.
  • Day 3: Sunrise, then the heritage loop — Pemayangtse, Rabdentse, Skywalk, Sanga Choeling.
  • Day 4: Departure, or a day trip to Yuksom or Singshore Bridge.

Day 1: Arrival and sunset

Most people arrive from NJP, Bagdogra or Gangtok in the afternoon after a 5–6 hour drive. (See how to reach Pelling.)

  • 3–4 pm: Check in. Confirm your room faces the mountains.
  • 5 pm: Walk to the Upper Pelling helipad ground for sunset.
  • 7–8 pm: Early dinner — many kitchens close by 8:30–9 pm.
  • Set an alarm for about 30 minutes before sunrise.

Day 2: Sunrise and the West Loop

  • 5–6:30 am: Sunrise over Kanchenjunga from your balcony or the helipad.
  • 8:30 am: Leave for the West Loop by taxi.
  • 9:15 am: Darap village — a short walk among farms and homes.
  • 10 am: Rimbi Waterfall and the rock garden.
  • 11:15 am: Khecheopalri Lake — walk quietly to the jetty and prayer flags.
  • 1 pm: Lunch at a roadside eatery or the lakeside cafés.
  • 2 pm: Kanchenjunga Falls (about 100 steps from the road).
  • 4 pm: Back in Pelling; rest.

Day 3: Heritage and the Skywalk

  • Sunrise: Second chance at the view.
  • 8 am: Pemayangtse Monastery — climb to the top floor for the carved wooden palace model.
  • 9:15 am: Rabdentse Ruins — a 20–30 minute forest walk to the old palace.
  • 11 am: Pelling Skywalk and the Chenrezig statue (tickets & tips).
  • 12:30 pm: Sanga Choeling Monastery if you have the energy for the uphill walk.
  • Afternoon: Café time, a spa, or shopping for local woollens.
  • Evening: Farewell dinner.

Day 4: Departure or a bonus day

If you’re leaving, set off by 9 am to reach NJP or Bagdogra by mid-afternoon. With an extra day, choose:

  • Yuksom & Tashiding: Sikkim’s first capital and sacred monasteries — day trips guide.
  • Singshore Bridge & Changey Falls: a half-day trip west towards Dentam.
