Temperatures are typical ranges for Upper Pelling and vary year to year. Treat them as a packing guide, not a forecast.
Autumn (October–November): the classic season
After the monsoon washes the air clean, Pelling enjoys its clearest skies of the year. Sunrise over the range is almost a daily event, days are mild and nights are cool. It’s also the busiest season, with Durga Puja and Diwali holidays — book rooms and taxis early. See our guide to hotels with Kanchenjunga views.
Winter (December–February): cold and clear
Winter brings sharp, clear mornings and very cold nights. Snow occasionally dusts the higher villages, and Pelling itself sometimes gets a light fall. Heated rooms matter. Read our full guide to Pelling in winter and snowfall.
Spring (March–May): flowers and families
Rhododendrons and magnolias bloom across West Sikkim, and the weather is pleasant for walking. Mornings can be clear, but haze often builds by late morning, so get up early. May brings summer-holiday crowds from the plains.

Monsoon (June–September): green and quiet
Heavy rain, low cloud and occasional landslides make this the trickiest time to visit, and the Skywalk may close during the worst of the weather. On the plus side, the hills are vividly green, the waterfalls are spectacular and hotel rates drop sharply. Build in buffer days for travel.
What to pack
- Oct–Feb: thermals, a down jacket, woollen cap and gloves.
- Mar–May: light layers plus a fleece for evenings.
- Jun–Sep: rain jacket, quick-dry clothes, leech socks for forest walks.
- All year: sunscreen, sunglasses, comfortable walking shoes, cash.
